10 Ice Cream Cones and Cups!

Homemade Ice Cream Waffle ConeI made 40 of these for my niece and brother's birthday party.

It was so much fun to make and serve with homemade Cookie Dough, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Tin Roof ice creams.

If you don't want a cone, how about a waffle cup?

These are made with a pizzelle maker.

A pizzelle is a traditional Italian cookie.

Don't have a pizzelle maker?

I made these on my non-stick skillet.

I like to call them my 'rustic' ice cream cones~

I put 2-3 Tablespoons of the batter onto a heated skillet.

If the batter is too thick, you can add a little water to it.

Spread the batter with an offset spatula.

Cook until the edges are golden brown.

It's hard to see, but there's a black spatula just under the edge.

It takes about a full minute or more to cook one side...

Flip it over, press down and cook the other side.

You can use a cone roller or in my case, I found my citrus reamer to do the job nicely.

You have to roll them up quickly, (they are hot!) pinch the tip of the cone closed, wait a few seconds and it will begin to harden.

You may want to have a small bowl of ice water handy to dip your fingertips in...

You can put them in a narrow champange glass or set it next to another cone for support while it cools.

As the cone cools, it will become crisp.

I made my cups using the bottoms of my drinking glasses.

You will have to use your hands to gently push and mold these into shape.

Chocolate cones are my husband's favorite...

The traditional pizzelle recipe that came with my maker was too delicate for a waffle cone.
After some searching and experimenting, I have two recipes that are ice cream worthy~

  6. Kelly, what a great idea to use them as fruit cups!

I just happened to find my pizzelle maker on clearance at Fred Meyer's for $20. You don't have to have one, but it does make it easier~
