8 Homemade Low-Fat Alcohol Free Egg Nog...Unbelievable!

Smooth, creamy......simply delicious.
"Wow!" was all my hubby could say.

I never thought I would make this.  Store bought eggnogg is just too....
rich.
Thick.
Expensive.  $6 a gallon!
Has stuff in it...  you know, the kind of ingredients that you can't pronounce.  Unless you're a chemist.  Or a pharmacist.

This light, creamy, simply delicious, and so easy to make.  I will definitely make it again and try Splenda to make it more calorie friendly.  The plus side?  You don't have to wait for the holidays to have eggnogg.

First, you will need egg yolks.

Check here if you need a fabulous tip for freezing and using whites.

I have a hard time throwing anything away.

Whisk up the egg yolks and add 1/3 c. sugar.

Add your milk.  I used skim.  If you want it thick, go for the whole milk stuff.
Get an ice bath ready.  Good thing it's for the eggs. I couldn't handle an ice bath.  brrrrrrr....
Cook the egg mixture on medium heat, stirring until the mixture coats the back of the spoon.  You should be able to draw your finger through the middle and see a clear separation....this only takes a couple of minutes.
Remove mixture from the heat and pour it into a bowl.  Set the bowl into the ice bath to keep the eggs from cooking any further.  Add vanilla and stir for 2 minutes.
I like to pour the cooled mixture through a find sieve, just to make sure there aren't any eggy pieces left behind.
Pour the strained mixture into a container, place in the fridge for 4-24 hours.
When ready to serve, take 1 c. of whipping cream, and a small amount of sugar and whip it till you have soft peaks.

Fold the whipped cream into the cold egg mixture.  Look how creamy it is!

Serve with a sprinkling of nutmeg, if desired.
Happy Holidays!

  1. My husband loves eggnog and is always sad that they don't sell it all year! I love it too, but I agree, to many additives! I like the idea of making it with splenda too, I'm going to have to make a few batches of this!

  3. can't wait to try this egg nog. I love the stuff but shy away from it due to the fat content. Love the tip on freezing the egg white, I have been throwing them out or microwaving them for the dogs. Can't wait to try this!

  4. Mags, I have never frozen egg yolks before. If you have purchased an egg yolk product, I'm sure it'll work. For a tip on freezing your own egg yolks, check here:
