12 Tater Tot Casserole for Mother's Day

Did you grow up on casseroles?  We did.

I remember this casserole because it had Tater Tots.  This was a real treat because we NEVER had Tater Tots....unless it was for this dish...
This is one of my son's favorite meals.

He loves it so much, he made it for me for Mother's Day.

Every year, for Mother's Day, my boys make a meal and clean up.  It's a gift I look forward to and cherish each year.

So what exactly is Tater Tot casserole?   This one is simply a meatloaf pressed into a 8x8 square pan, covered with a can of cream of chicken (or mushroom) soup, Tater Tots arranged on top and baked in the oven.  A meat, potatoes, and gravy lover's delight.

What is YOUR favorite casserole?

  1. Sigh, tator tot casserole sounds wonderful, but the truly awesome part of this is how your boys make it for you and do the clean up! How many men out there don't understand that giving mom a night off and living in her shoes, even for just one meal, can make you love them so much more! Good training for the future Frieda!

This is one of the recipes I acquired by marriage and I like it quite a bit. I have discovered since that there are several other "Tator Tot Casseroles" out there and they are nothing like this. Most of them are described in less than glowing terms too. This one however is tasty.--Lars

  4. My husband was raised on casseroles, so when we got married he made me promise that I would NOT cook casseroles! (His mother wasn't the greatest cook.) So, the closest I come is to making lasagna with raviolis, and that is pretty yummy. ;-)

  5. retired2AZ, my husband was raised on crock pot meals as his mother worked full time. He made ME promise that I would never make beef stew!

Come to think of it, enchiladas could be considered a casserole, too....

  7. How sweet that you get a meal made for you on mother's day. It's been years since I had tater tots. Makes me want one. :)

  8. Hi Frieda,
For some reason blogger is not allowing me to post comments to some posts today, but others it will. Strange, huh?

Anyway your mother's day casserole sounds like a win/win. You don't have to cook and the boys get what they love to eat!

My favorite casserole is Chicken Wild Rice Supreme. It's great for using up left over holiday turkey or with boneless, skinless, chicken breast.

  12. My mom often made Tater Tot casserole for us, but sometimes she would use cream of celery, add half a bag of frozen broccoli, chicken breasts, some cheese, and 2 tablespoons of curry powder. It smells like pure temptation when it's baking.
