6 Check Your Propane Gas Tank

Did everyone have a great holiday?

We ran out of propane right in the middle of smoking pork.  Fortunately, our guests weren't coming until later that evening.

What to do?

We run to the trailer park near our home and decide to bring our other two propane tanks to fill up.  We like the idea of having extra propane tanks as part of our emergency food storage as fuel.

Did you know there is a date stamped on your tank?

If it's more than 12 years old, you will need to get a new one.  I'm supposing it's a safety regulation.

Looks like we'll be rotating our propane tanks as well!

How did you celebrate your Fourth of July?

  1. My parents are usually out of town for the Fourth of July, so this year it was a treat to have them home. They came over to our house and we had a picnic with KFC. We went the easy way this time.:) Fireworks were set off, and fun was had by all! We love the 4th of July!

  2. When you think nothing else can go wrong, it happens right then. Hope you managed to have a great 4th anyway. I really enjoyed the fireworks!

Take comfort in the fact that you're not alone! The ONLY time we've run out of propane was when guests were coming, too!

  4. They have these little gauges you can buy (I've seen them at Sam's) that tell you how much propane is left in your tank. You just screw it on the propane tank then screw the hose into it. Sounds like a great investment for you!

  5. We had to run out of propane at least two times before deciding to buy an extra tank. I'm going to look for the gauge that Tonya recommends.

Hope everything cooked up fine for your dinner.

  6. A very wise warning to post. So many people don't know about the lifespan of tanks. About 20 years ago, and about 1 1/2 blocks away we heard a large explosion. Turns out, according to the retired fire fighter across the street, an ancient tank blew. Fortunately no one was hurt. Since then I've always chosen the "trade-a-tank" companies. I also have an extra tank for occasions just like the one you experienced.
