Take a look at my Original Cold Start yogurt recipe and look for the words No Yogurt Button in the recipe. It will give directions for using your oven, cooler or heating pad to help keep your milk warm and turn into yogurt. :-)Frieda Loves Breadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00265482581165683185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272761941682835961.post-40688461338270180782022-06-24T06:13:36.417-07:002022-06-24T06:13:36.417-07:00Can you make this without an instant pot? I am not certain if packet sizes vary in Knoxx, but I do know that different brands vary in packet size.
To get the 2 Tablespoons needed for this recipe, you'd have to open 3 packets and measure out 2 tablespoons of the gelatin.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me about this error. I've made the correction in the recipe.
:-)
Frieda Loves Breadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00265482581165683185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272761941682835961.post-26589891508008914882021-09-17T06:54:32.903-07:002021-09-17T06:54:32.903-07:00I was a bit confused at step 4. Instead of using two packets, I followed the instructions and used one packet.

Sadly, my yogurt is fairly runny. It's been hanging out in the fridge for about 4 hours.

I guess I should have followed the measurements and not the instructions for that particular step. If so, it should have set up in the fridge. If you didn't reach the temperature needed to activate the gelatin, that can be the cause. If so, I'd test the accuracy of your thermometer. If you use warm water (not boiling) to make Jello, it won't set.
You brought up a good question about reculturing. I have not seen any success with reculturing goat milk or non dairy milks to make yogurt - only with cow's milk dairy.
If you have used the correct temp for incubation, you can use this thin yogurt in smoothies or add powdered instant pudding mix to help flavor and thicken.
My advice is to check your thermometer, check the date of your gelatin, and follow the recipe with new ingredients.
Good luck! :-)Frieda Loves Breadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00265482581165683185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3272761941682835961.post-66825104353481241632021-09-02T13:12:40.392-07:002021-09-02T13:12:40.392-07:00So o just made my first batch of yogurt and as exp...So o just made my first batch of yogurt and as expected it has the consistency of kefir. If it requires using hot water, you can choose to use gelatin as directed in the recipe.
If the directions have you use cold water to reconstitute the milk, you probably could increase the powdered milk to water ratio.
