4 Caramel Dumplings

This recipe comes from my grandmother.  It uses Bisquick, which has been around since the 1930's.  It's such a warm sweet treat on a cold day!

The recipe originally had a "scoop" of this and a little "bit" of that, so I had to measure and finalize the ingredients:  Bisquick, sugar, and milk to make a thick, wet batter.

Measured water is brought to a boil.

In another pan, brown sugar and butter are put together.  The boiling water is poured on top...

and real vanilla is added.

The Bisquick batter is dropped by large serving tablespoons (how's that for an exact measurement?) into the boiling caramel and covered for 10 minutes.

Then the cover is off the dumplings for an additional 10 minutes to finish cooking....I can smell these already ~

Each dumpling is spooned into a serving dish and topped with additional caramel sauce...  My husband loves this with whipped cream or even better, a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Bet you want a bite....

  4. I almost burst into tears when I read this recipe. Mom use to make these for us on sundays and I make them for my kids occasionally. We love them! I never knew that it was Grandma Shell's recipe. Funny what you never think to ask. What other recipes do you have of hers? I would love to get my hands on more of them.
