5 Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Heart Cookies

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

I deviated from my typical sugar cookie recipe and tried another favorite:  Oatmeal Cookies to see if I could shape them into hearts.

I made two changes to the recipe:  used instant oatmeal and mini chocolate chips; for easier cutting.

Here's how the experiment went:

I flattened the dough between two pieces of plastic wrap to the thickness of my cookie cutter.

Put them about 2" apart on my baking sheet,

and they turned into regular, typical oatmeal circles! (sorry, no pic)

I remembered my puffy heart dinner rolls, in which I had to "exaggerate" the tops of the hearts so they wouldn't fuse into each other and tried this:

I gave the bottom cookie more, uh, *ahem* cleavage and they turned out like this ~

Yay!

Now you have heart shaped oatmeal cookies for that special someone ~

  1. Yumm- these are so cute! I made some chocolate chip cookie sandwiches last night and this would have saved me from having a little bag-full of cookie scraps! haha I just baked a sheet of cookie dough like a cookie cake and cut out hearts afterward. It worked out OK I guess and the bf enjoyed his bag of "treats!" haha
