6 Cool Kitchen Too: Butter Keeper

I love my Butter Keeper.  Some people call it a "butter bell" or "butter bell crock" because of its bell shape.

Why do I love it?

Because it keeps my butter fresh and soft on the counter top for up to 30 days!

Don't you hate it when you try to spread cold butter on a piece of fresh bread....it tears and rips the bread apart!

I also love it because it costs under $10 and it is so easy to use...

Simply spread 1 stick (1/2 cup) of softened butter into the "bell."

Fill the other container with a couple of inches of fresh water.  This is one of the keys to keeping your butter fresh.  You must change the water every 2-3 days.

No biggie.  This butter pretty much disappears after a week or so, which I then hand wash the butter bell and replace with a fresh stick of butter.

The water creates a seal, keeping outside air away from the butter, keeping it fresh.

Cool, huh?

  1. I have one too and I love it . Mine is pottery and the maker said in his blog to add a touch of salt to the water if you use unsalted butter so it won't get all funky.

    1. Mine is ceramic, too and that is a great idea to add a touch of salt to unsalted butter. Thanks!

  3. I've had mine for many years ~ but if you click on the link near the beginning of the post, I found a good deal for one on Amazon for $7.97. There are many others on Amazon that are pretty and decorative. Have fun shopping for one!

  5. That is very cool! I like using butter, but it has to be soft. :) I have a couple small butter dishes that I like. They only hold about 3 T. This is nice if we're not using a lot of butter, but then we have spells when the dish is always empty.

    Love the name of your blog. I love bread too and my daughter does *maybe* even more than I do. I really enjoy making bread and baking. Partly because I like to eat it. {Hence the pounds I would like to lose...}
