Checking the temp of cooled milk for yogurt |
An accurate kitchen thermometer is an essential tool, from candy making, yogurt, to checking the internal temperature of cooked meats when baking, smoking or grilling.
Checking the internal temp of cooked Pork Loin with LavaTools thermometer |
I own several thermometers, each with a specific purpose. You do not want a cheap thermometer; you will get what you pay for. My $15 Pyrex digital thermometer only lasted two years.
You will want a thermometer that is:
- Accurate
- Easy to read
- Fast (digital)
- Splash-proof or waterproof
- Good warranty
Glass thermometers are great for deep frying or making candy, as they clip on the side and can withstand high temperatures for long periods of time.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a digital thermometer is a must have. Good Luck to everyone entering!
We have a fairly new oven, but things just don't seem to be completely done as they should in the time given in recipes. This includes frozen items/meals as well. We have a thermometer inside the oven and it shows the correct temps on thing, but it's frustrating to think something is done, only to find out after pulling it out and then finding it's not even hot in the center. I even had this happen to my lasagna not long ago. SO frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI think a digital thermometer would come in extremely handy in my kitchen. Using a regular food thermometer takes longer and when you need to check multiple areas for something to check uniformly cooked to temp, a digital thermometer would be a huge benefit. It could be used on almost everything cooked in this oven to be sure my meals are actually hot and cooked through, whether meats or casseroles even.
Love to have a digital thermometer for my meats especially but be great for making my yummy yogurt in my IP Lux.
ReplyDeleteFor me it would be used for Meat. I'll be honest I do your cold start and love it.
ReplyDeleteI have this one glass thermometer that I use for canning and yogurt. I bought it at a thrift store when I first moved out of my parents 12 years ago. Now the handle is broken so I have to hold it when checking temperatures. A digital thermometer would be nice.
ReplyDeleteMeats is a big one for me as well as yogurt. I would love to try out the boil method using a digital thermometer!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this would work for candy making? It's killing my meat thermometers!

ReplyDeleteI would love thi try the noil method for my yogurt addiction (your cold start is my current obsession) but also, maybe it would help for making my homemade maple syrup!
ReplyDeleteTwo things: #1 How did I not think about "magneting" my thermometer to my pot?!? We store it on our magnetic spice rack so it isn't like I didn't know it could do that. #2 if I got a second thermometer, I could finally stop having to frantically clean meat gunk off our current one because someone (cough, husband, cough) tosses it back in the drawer without cleaning...
ReplyDeleteI’ve never used a digital thermometer. Only old fashioned dial read. Digital would be wonderful
ReplyDeleteI have never used a digital thermometer. This would be great

ReplyDeleteI'd mainly use the thermometer for making yogurt. My husband has one he claims as his own for grilling, so I'd have one, too, I watched your video on making yogurt in the Instant Pot and enjoyed it very much. I've made yogurt a few times, but still learned more.
ReplyDeleteI make yogurt and sourdough bread every week...this thermometer would be great!
ReplyDeleteI'd use this mainly for my chicken that I cook. Thank you for the review and giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThis would be handy to take camping when we cook our food we could make sure it's really done - esp with foil dinners!
ReplyDeleteI would teach my 12 yo granddaughter use it. I do NOT like to cook but realize I am doing her a disservice by not being a good example, especially since she is showing an interest. We are learning together! Thank you for all the wonderful information and recipes you share on your website.
