13 Kitchen Tip: Slicing Olives Quickly

Comparing the canned olives side by side, the sliced ones were twice the price of the whole olives!  I needed a bunch of sliced olives to use as a topping for a pizza party and discovered a cool kitchen tool to use ...

an egg slicer!  I love kitchen tools that have more than one purpose.

This egg slicer is from Ikea.  Insert olives,

 quickly close the top ...

and if the olives don't get cut all the way through, just push 'em through the wires.

Done!

Do you have any other uses for your egg slicer?

  2. I also do olives in my egg slicer! Like you said...it's a great time saver when you have a lot of them to slice. I have a Pampered Chef egg slicer, and it also slices strawberries and fresh mushrooms nicely.

  10. Brilliant! I end up cutting olives all the time and it takes so long. Great idea to use an egg slicer! Looks like from the other comments there's all sorts of things you can put in there that I've never thought of!

  11. I must repeat Shannon's comment: Brilliant! As are all the other ideas from readers, none of which I ever thought of! In fact the egg slicer I had got tossed by my former husband who thought it was useless. What did he know? Lol! Guess what I'll be picking up on my next trip to Ikea :)

  12. Christine, I love tools that have multiple uses and got so many ideas from these readers! I saw an OXO egg slicer the other day that made me laugh...the slicer rotates45° to "chop" up the eggs. I slice my hard boiled eggs in one direction, then turn the EGG the other direction to chop it.
