4 Kitchen Tip: Freezing Mushrooms

I have a confession to make.

I do not like mushrooms. I just can't bring myself to even try them.

But my husband LOVES mushrooms~

and I love him, so....

I get a great deal on sliced, clean mushrooms at Sam's club.

Just plop them in a skillet, throw some butter on them and saute them until the juice starts to leave the mushroom.

Then I put them in a freezer bag, flatten them and get as much air out of the bag as I can.

Don't forget to label and date the bag.

Now, anytime hubby wants mushrooms, he just breaks off a portion, thaws it out and throws it on his hamburger, spaghetti sauce, or omelette.

When my husband is happy, I'm happy.

  4. Hub and I love mushrooms in MANY things !
I buy large quantities, when they are crisp, clean but reduced at our local supermarket. Very much the way you do, but we put them in a large pot with butter, wine and black pepper, and cook them down for about 45 min in a good simmer. Cool and then bag them , about 4 oz., in fold over sandwich bags rolled. I freeze these on a cookie sheet and then pack them in large zip or vac seal bags. I freeze most of the juices separately for aujus for soups or stews. Quick to just grab a baggie or so when needed.
